Giselle

Theatre production for NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DRAMATIC ARTS (NIDA)

Musical Theatre & Puppet Production of Dot & the Kangaroo written by Ethel C. Pedley in 1899. A young girl, Dot is entranced by the bush and wanders off, getting lost and scared she falls asleep under a tree. She wakes up to discover a friendly Kangaroo, together they travel through the Australian bush to return Dot to her family and home. The combination of puppets, shadow puppets, live music and physical set action for the performers created quite a design challenge in constructing a world where all of these elements looked coherent. The favourite part of this production was the opportunity to experiment with the practical elements of the set, puppets and costumes to create a world of magic.

Giselle

Theoretical production for NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DRAMATIC ARTS (NIDA)

Costumes designed for the Ballet Giselle.
The story follows the tragic love story of a young village girl, Giselle who falls in love with a noble already betrothed to another woman; love, passion, jealousy, heartbreak, revenge and forgiveness, these strong human emotions play catalysts to the tragedy of the story. The design for the costumes was based on the human nervous system, responsible for the chemicals that use the nervous system as a pathway for those emotions. Each character is ruled by these emotions and thus is caged by the chemicals that rule them.
